- Please prepare your child before the procedure and create rapport where age permits. Be honest and say that pain from the injection will last for 10 seconds only.
- Avoid public transport on return, and someone staying with adult patient for at least 24 hours.
- For babies: we suggest having a feed ready for after the procedure, as well as some extra nappies at hand.
- For children: loose trousers are important and change beforehand.
- After the procedure, you will be explained after-care thoroughly with written instructions sheet. Please make sure you understand and happy before you leave the clinic.
- Please have Paracetamol/Calpol and ibuprofen available at home as pain relief. Please buy suitable medicine based on your child’s age.
A child has to be willing and cooperative where applicable; occasionally the procedure may have to be abandoned where child is frightened and is not co-operative or withdraws his consent, and the child’s safety is compromised. In addition, the child has to be medically fit and well.

Under local anesthetic (can be done under General Anaesthetic at hospital, however, cost is much higher), aseptic condition; usually plastibel ring and suturing for older children and adults.
Plastibel ring technique:
- We may use either Plastibel ring or traditional suturing method. Please let us know if you have any preference.
- Plastibel ring applies only to younger child/baby, may be to older children at parents choice if ring fits the penis size.
- Every procedure has advantages and disadvantages: please enquire with the surgeon before you proceed and we decide
- Ring should be loose and please be familiar with this after the procedure as we will show you
- Ring method may have less pain, but may take up to 2 weeks to fall off. Please let us know if the ring, the thread and the skin (altogether) do not fall off on its own within two weeks.
- Very rarely the ring can slip back onto the shaft of penis and can get stuck to form a tight band (as can happen on the finger) causing pain; you must inform us immediately if you suspect that.

- Please be reassured that pain is only for one minute from injection using a smallest needle available.
- If possible, avoid public transport on your return home, and have an adult staying with the patient for at least 24 hours.
- Try to avoid eating anything 4 hours before the procedure.
- Please wear or bring clean tight boxer/under wear and soft, loose trousers.
- Please make sure the area is properly shaved, cleaned and take bath or shower day before.
- After the procedure, if you have to travel long distance, it is recommended that you stay at such a distance for first 24 hours that you can attend clinic if there is an emergency, such as major bleeding, which is rare indeed.
- Pain after procedure is not very common as we use tight dressing/bandage to prevent bleeding. However, please have Paracetamol and ibuprofen available at home as pain relief, and we will advise you if there is any contraindication to use those.

- The sutures used dissolve or fall off on their own, no need to remove.

- We give you topical antibiotic to apply on the wound to prevent the infection.
